Mississippi Concealed Carry Law

Mississippi law states that anyone can openly carry a pistol or revolver on their person or in a vehicle as long as it is clearly visible.  A concealed weapons permit is required otherwise.

The requirements to obtain a concealed weapons permit in Mississippi are as follows:

  1. The applicant must be a resident of the state of Mississippi for 12 months or longer preceding the application. (this can be waived for active military or retired law enforcement officers)

  2. All applicants must be 21 years of age or older.

  3. Does not suffer from a physical infirmity which prevents safe handling of a stun gun, pistol or revolver.

  4. Have not been convicted of a felony in a Mississippi state court or any other state or the United States and not been pardoned.

  5. Does not chronically or habitually abuse controlled substances or been committed to a treatment facility for controlled substances within three years of application.

  6. Does not chronically or habitually use alcohol or been committed to a treatment facility for alcohol abuse, or convicted of an alcohol related crime within three years of application.

  7. Must desire a legal means to carry concealed for self-defense.

  8. Has not been adjudicated mentally incompetent within the last 5 years.

  9. At least 3 years must have elapsed since probation for a suspended felony sentence.

  10. Is not disqualified to possess or own a weapon based on federal law.

  11. Is not a fugitive.

If the above requirements are met then an application can be submitted to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety for review.

Concealed carry is not allowed in schools, courthouses, police stations, detention facilities, government meeting places, polling places, establishments primarily dedicated to serving alcohol, athletic events, parades or demonstrations.
